JOB DESCRIPTION
The Institute of Physiology II at the Jena University Hospital is looking for a postdoctoral research associate (m/f/d) to start on October 1, 2025. At the institute, natural scientists from various disciplines and medical professionals work on research projects related to the function of ion channels.
The focus is on ligand-gated and voltage-gated ion channels, which are important for the function of the heart, retina, and sense of smell.
Another focus is the creation of light-switchable ion channels as part of the DFG-funded research training group “PhInt.” Teaching takes place in the preclinical subject of physiology. The position includes 4 teaching hours per week during the lecture period (4 LVS).
Your duties and responsibilities:
- carrying out research projects in ion channel research using various methods of electrophysiology and molecular biology
- assisting in preclinical teaching in the human medicine and dentistry programs in the physiology practicals (Prior knowledge of physiology or medicine is not required, sufficient opportunity will be given to familiarize yourself with the subject matter)
- supporting the principal investigator in supervising doctoral students
Your competences:
- Experimental doctorate in physiology, biology, biophysics, molecular biology, or a related field.
- Experience with laboratory work.
- Willingness to learn electrophysiological, molecular biological, and cell culture methods.
- Willingness to learn methods of computer-assisted data analysis.
- Ability to work independently on research projects and actively participate in project planning.
