NEURINFECT is a new, translationally oriented DFG-funded Research Training Group that educates a new generation of scientists to investigate the biological mechanisms underlying neuropsychiatric sequelae following infections (NPI). 

The Graduate Program brings together an interdisciplinary team of experienced researchers from neuroscience, infection/immunology, and both experimental and clinical medicine. It addresses the urgent need to strengthen the translation of mechanistic basic research into clinical application and to connect expertise across disciplinary boundaries. The translational research program includes experimental work in animal models and clinical projects in patient cohorts, employing a broad methodological spectrum in neurophysiology, imaging, and immune phenotyping. 

NEURINFECT offers a highly qualified research and training environment that specifically promotes the translation of experimental findings into clinical applications and strengthens interdisciplinary collaboration.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Contributing to the planning and execution of clinical or experimental translational research projects in the field of neuropsychiatric sequelae after infection 
  • Analysis of collected data and publication of results 
  • Participation and active engagement in the structured qualification program 
  • Presentation of results in internal seminars and at scientific conferences

Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Internationally recognized degree (Master’s, Diploma, State Examination) in life sciences, medicine, psychology, or computer science 
  • Minimum grade average: 75% 
  • Independent, well-structured, and results-oriented working style 
  • Practical experience in clinical research or in animal experimental work is desirable 
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research environments and collaboration across different fields 
  • Ability to work in a team and with attention to detail 
  • For clinical projects: very good German and English skills, written and spoken; for experimental projects: very good English skills
